Moving coil structure is the most widely known and used structure in the loudspeaker, with good performance, design and production is relatively easy and so on, this article will introduce you to the application of magnets in moving coil loudspeaker.
Moving coil speakers are mainly composed of magnetic circuit structure, vibration structure and support structure. The most important part of the magnetic circuit structure is made up of the magnet and the iron core, from which the magnetic field is generated. These two components are firmly fixed, regardless of the energized or not, the magnetic circuit structure is not moving.
The vibrating structure mainly consists of the voice coil, diaphragm and other components. When current flows through the voice coil, the changing current causes the voice coil to produce a changing magnetic field. The magnetic field produced by the voice coil interacts with the stable magnetic field produced by the magnet, causing the voice coil to drive the diaphragm to vibrate, ultimately producing sound.

Under the same conditions, the stronger the magnetic field of the magnet in the magnetic circuit structure, the greater the kinetic energy produced by the same current, which means that the speaker can be easily driven under a strong magnetic field. However, when the magnetic field strength exceeds a certain range, low-frequency signals may be ignored, which can lead to a loss of low frequencies.
Which type of magnet is used in a moving coil speaker?
There are two types of moving coil speakers: internal and external. The magnet of the internal type is wrapped in an outer shell, which makes it less likely to leak a magnetic field, and therefore the size of the speaker is relatively small. Since the magnet is wrapped in an enclosure, there is no room for a large magnet. In order to generate a stronger magnetic field in a limited space, neodymium magnets are the best choice for internal magnet speakers. Since external magnet type speakers are not limited by size, inexpensive ferrite magnets are usually used.
