Samarium Cobalt Magnets with Nickel Coating

Samarium cobalt magnet is mainly known for its high temperature resistance, it is a kind of rare earth permanent magnet material, it has very excellent temperature stability and corrosion resistance, it is usually not plated, but it can be plated, especially nickel plated.

The main purpose of samarium cobalt magnet nickel plating is to improve the appearance, corrosion resistance and adhesion with other materials.

Samarium cobalt magnets with nickel-plated surfaces are not very much like neodymium magnets.

Samarium cobalt magnets with nickel-plated surfaces

First of all, the surface of samarium cobalt magnet is brighter after nickel plating, it has the same appearance as neodymium iron boron nickel plating, so it is hard to distinguish it with our eyes.

Further, although samarium cobalt magnets are more resistant to corrosion, slight oxidization or surface corrosion may still occur under high humidity, acidic and alkaline environments or salt spray conditions. A nickel plating layer provides additional protection and improves the magnet's stability in harsh environments.

In terms of enhancing the adhesion with other materials, through the surface nickel plating, Samarium Cobalt magnets can be better combined with glue or other encapsulation materials, such as sticking 3M backing.

Scenarios or applications where SmCo magnets require nickel plating;

Mostly used in high temperature and high corrosive environment sensors, motors, precision instruments that need to work stably for a long time, magnetic stirrers, magnetic pumps and so on.

Samarium Cobalt Magnets can be plated with other plating options besides nickel, such as epoxy, gold or silver plating, to learn more you can read: Coating of Samarium Cobalt Magnets (SmCo)

Then say samarium cobalt plating choice suggestion, if normal dry, high temperature environment can choose not to add plating. If there is a requirement of smooth appearance, beautiful silver color, need to be fixed by glue, you can choose nickel coating. If there is high humidity, chemical corrosion environment, electrical insulation and other needs recommended to choose epoxy resin coating.
