How to know which magnet is stronger?

How do you know which magnet is stronger when you have several magnets of about the same size in your hand? Today I teach you a few practical methods.

Effective Method 1: Tensile Force Test

Tensile force is an important parameter for measuring the strength of a magnet. Tensile force refers to the force required to pull a magnet away from another object. A specialized tensile tester can be used to measure this force. To test, the magnet is placed in contact with a mild steel plate, making sure the surface of the plate is smooth and clean, and then the force is applied vertically until the magnet is pulled away. The pull tester will display the amount of force required, usually in kilograms (kg) or Newtons (N).

Method 2, Using a Gauss meter

A Gauss meter is used to directly measure the strength of the magnetic field on the surface of a magnet in Gauss or Tesla, this is not always accurate, there are certain conditions, such as exactly the same dimensions and direction of magnetization.

Method 3: Density Test

For magnets of the same size, you can determine the magnetic strength by comparing their weight. Generally speaking, denser magnets are more magnetic. Using an electronic scale to accurately weigh the magnets, denser magnets may have stronger magnetism.

If you don't have specialized equipment, you can also roughly estimate the strength of a magnet through simple experiments:

Paper clip test: Use a magnet to attract a paper clip and observe the distance or number of pins that can be attracted.

Iron nail test: Place a magnet over a container containing iron nails and observe the number of nails attracted.

Spring Scale Test: Place a piece of iron on top of a magnet and use a spring scale to pull the iron and record the force required.

Paper test: place small nails on cardboard, then place the magnet under the cardboard and gradually increase the number of layers of paper until the magnet fails to attract the nails.

Trolley test: Use a trolley with a magnet and observe how far the magnet can make the trolley start to move.
