Reed switch is a commonly used electronic components, widely used in a variety of switches and sensors, the work of the reed switch depends on the role of the external magnetic field, in particular, the direction and position of the magnet is critical to the normal operation of the reed switch, this article details the importance of the reed switch magnet direction.
The common magnet shapes used for reed switches are rectangular block and cylindrical, disc(round).
The two reeds within the reed switch must be magnetized to opposite polarities so that they can attract each other and thus close the reed switch. The magnet should therefore be oriented in such a way as to ensure that this effect can be produced. If the magnet is not oriented correctly, it may cause the two reeds within the reed switch to be magnetized to the same polarity, which would have a repulsive effect and prevent the reed switch from closing instead.
For bar (block) or cylindrical magnets, the south pole of the magnet should face one reed of the reed switch and the north pole should face the other reed, which ensures that the two reeds are magnetized in opposite polarities.
In systems using multiple reed switches, the magnet orientation of each reed switch needs to be considered separately. Ensuring that each magnet is correctly oriented and positioned will avoid mutual interference and ensure the overall performance of the system.
In practice, the size, shape, strength of the magnet and the distance between it and the reed switch will affect the working condition of the reed switch. Therefore, these factors need to be fully considered in the design and adjusted experimentally if necessary to ensure that the reed switch can work reliably under the expected conditions.
