Double magnet speaker vs single magnet

Dual-magnet speakers and single-magnet speakers are categorized according to the number of magnets used in the speaker, and these two types of speakers have some differences in structure and performance, and we hope that the following introduction will be helpful to you.

Single Magnet Speakers

This is the most common type, and most commercial speakers are of this design. It usually consists of a round or oval magnet with a voice coil on top. When an electric current is passed through the voice coil a magnetic field is generated, and this field interacts with the magnet's fixed magnetic field to cause the voice coil and its attached diaphragm to vibrate, thus producing sound.

Dual Magnet Speakers

A relatively uncommon design, the dual magnet design uses two magnets to surround the voice coil. This configuration provides a more even distribution of the magnetic field and may allow the voice coil to maintain linear motion over a wider range of travel, which can help improve sound quality, especially in terms of low frequency response. Dual magnet speakers are typically used in professional audio equipment or high-end sound systems.

Main difference between the use of dual magnets and single magnets in a loudspeaker (horn);

Construction: Single magnet speakers have only one magnet, usually located on the back of the speaker. Dual magnet speakers use two magnets, usually one on the back of the speaker and the other around the voice coil.

Magnetic field strength and homogeneity: The dual magnet design provides a stronger, more even magnetic field, which is great for improving sound quality.

Cost: Dual magnet speakers are usually more expensive than single magnet speakers due to the use of more materials and more complex manufacturing processes.

Size and Weight: The dual magnet design may result in a larger, heavier speaker unit that may not be suitable for some space-constrained applications.

Which type of speaker to choose depends on the specific application scenario and the requirements for sound quality. For most ordinary consumers, single magnet speakers are sufficient for daily needs, while for professional users who pursue the ultimate sound quality, dual magnet speakers may be a better choice.
