Sintered Alnico Production Process Advantages Applications

Alnico magnet is an alloy composed of aluminum, nickel, cobalt, copper, iron and other trace metals. According to the different production processes are divided into cast alnico and sintered alnico, this article is mainly for you to introduce in detail the production process of sintered alnico magnets, the basic characteristics, advantages and applications.

Sintered Alnico production process steps;

1. Raw material preparation: Prepare the required metal raw materials, including aluminum, nickel, cobalt and other additives. These raw materials are usually supplied in powder form.

2. Dosing and mixing: The metal powders are mixed together in specific recipe proportions. This can be done by mechanical mixing or ball milling.

3. Pressing: The mixed metal powders are placed in a mold and pressed by applying high pressure. This will form an unshaped magnet with the desired shape and size.

4. Sintering: The pressed and formed magnets are sintered in a high temperature furnace. During the sintering process, the powder particles of the magnet are combined to form a dense structure.

5. Grinding and Machining: After sintering, the magnets may need to be ground and machined to achieve the desired accuracy and surface quality. This can be done by grinding, cutting, milling, etc.

6. Magnetization: In the final stage of the production process, the magnets need to be magnetized. This can be done by exposing the magnets to a strong magnetic field or by passing an electric current through the magnets.

7. Inspection and quality control: Finished magnets are inspected and quality controlled to ensure that they meet the specified magnetic properties and physical characteristics.

Advantages of sintered aluminium nickel cobalt magnets;

1. Sintered Alnico magnets operate at temperatures up to 450-550°C, and they have a smaller magnetic output variation and temperature variation between permanent magnet series.

2. Although the magnetic properties of sintered Alnico magnets are slightly lower than those of cast Alnico magnets, their mechanical properties are much better.

3. The dimensions and dimensional tolerances of sintered Alnico are relatively smaller than those of cast magnets and do not require much further processing.

4. Suitable for mass production.

5. Excellent corrosion resistance.

Sintered Alnico Applications;

Traditional applications are: magnetrons, TWT amplifiers, regulators, guitar pickups, motors and instruments;

Newly developed application areas for Alnico: Hall components for temperature sensors and electronic sensors for automotive use;

Sintered Alnico can be machined to shape;

Sintered Alnico can be processed into a variety of shapes, the common ones include block, cylinder, ring, arc, and free-form. It should be noted that sintered Alnico is a special material with high hardness and brittleness, and you need to choose the right process and tools when processing in order to avoid cracking or damaging the material.

These are some basic knowledge about sintered Alnico, now rare earth permanent magnet materials have replaced Alnico in many applications.
