Working principle of strong magnetism in pot magnets

Pot magnets, also known as cup magnets or sucker magnets, are designed to generate strong magnetic fields due to their structure and the materials used, and the following is an introduction to the reasons for their strong magnetism and how they work.

Components of a pot magnet:

Magnet: usually rare earth neodymium iron boron is used, a few will use ceramic ferrite.

Steel pot or casing: the steel casing is the external structure of the magnet and is usually made of a soft magnetic material, such as mild steel, which helps to direct the magnetic lines of force and concentrate the magnetic flux, resulting in a stronger suction of the magnet.

Why do pot magnets have strong magnetism?

The main thing lies in its design structure, where the steel shell wraps around the magnet on the back and sides of the magnet, making the magnetic circuit closed and reducing the dissipation of the magnetic field. This design concentrates the magnetic flux on the side of the opening (i.e., the working side of the magnet), which significantly enhances the magnetic force on that side.

Due to the presence of the steel shell, the magnetic field is directed to the open end of the can magnet rather than being dispersed throughout the space. This concentrates the magnetic field in a smaller area, which significantly enhances the magnetism.

This design ensures that virtually all of the magnetic force is used to create a strong adsorption on the attached surface, which makes pot magnets ideal for applications where they must be held securely in place, such as industrial lifting, fixing or mounting tasks.

How pot magnets work;

As also described above, the steel shell plays a large role, including directing and concentrating the magnetic flux to form a closed loop. When the open end of the pot magnet is close to iron or other magnetically conductive materials, a strong magnetic field creates a powerful attraction that adsorbs these materials to the surface of the magnet. Since the magnetic field is concentrated at the open end, the adsorption force is very strong and is able to hold objects securely.

Compared to ordinary magnets, this structural design of can magnets allows the magnetic force to be concentrated, thus providing a stronger adsorption force than an ordinary magnet of the same volume.
